Despite the flurry of typos and grammatical errors that run rampant here at Mike’s Place, Mike is highly educated, just extremely careless, as his mother tells him constantly. Born and raised in Canada, Mike grew up in the mid-north region of Canada in a steel town called Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, right at the hub of the Great Lakes. He has very fond memories of “the Soo,” especially that fateful day when he found out he was leaving “the Soo” for the southern United States. As much as he loves his home and native land, Mike hates snow, and as he tells his congregation every winter, “There is no snow in heaven”
Mike received his undergraduate education at Eastern Pentecostal Bible College, which is now known as Master’s College and Seminary. His graduate degrees came from a variety of universities and seminaries, most recently Trinity College, in Great Britain, where he received his Doctorate. Mike is currently working on a second doctorate, but since the Lord is returning soon, he likely won’t get the work done in time.
Currently Mike makes his home in the bustling metropolis of Coeburn, located in the coal fields of southwest Virginia, where he shares the house with one wife, two Yorkie Poos, and one very large and overly affectionate Chocolate Lab. Mike is the senior pastor (the only pastor) at Norton Evangelical Presbyterian Church, in Norton, just a few miles down the highway from Coeburn. On August 7, 2011, with an astonishing 100% vote from the congregation, the church and Mike severed all ties with its denomination, the troubled and much maligned PC(USA).
Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you. (2 Corinthians 6:17, KJV)
