Then the church throughout Judea, Galilee and Samaria enjoyed a time of peace. It was strengthened; and encouraged by the Holy Spirit, it grew in numbers, living in the fear of the Lord. (NIV)
Then had the churches rest throughout all Judaea and Galilee and Samaria, and were edified; and walking in the fear of the Lord, and in the comfort of the Holy Ghost, were multiplied. (KJV)
Acts 9:31
1. It was Peaceful. “Then the church…enjoyed a time of peace.” (NIV) At this time, the Church was at peace with God but they also had peace with each other.
2. It was Strengthened. “It was edified.”(KJV) The Church was built up and empowered by the Word of God, preached and rooted in love.
3. It was Active. “And walking…” (KJV) The Church was not sleeping or speculating. It was walking by faith; it was working for God.
4. It was Humble. “Living in the fear of the Lord.” (NIV) The Church feared no man or the world. The Church had a healthy fear—respect—of God. They were not so familiar that they took Him for granted, but coveted His presence at every service.
5. It was Happy and Holy. “Encouraged by the Holy Spirit.” (NIV) The Church was in constant fellowship with God through the Holy Spirit and according to the KJV, the Church was “comforted” by Him. You cannot but grow in holiness the closer you get to God and the more time you spend with Him.
6. It was Multiplied. “It grew in numbers.” (NIV) The Church will grow and increase because God is present. His Name is honored, His Word delivered, and His will done.
