A Consideration of Malachi 3:16, 17
1. Three things about the Lord’s People. Note their:
Reverence, verse 16a. This kind of fear is not a fear of terror or of something that frightens you, rather, it is the fear of loving and dutiful child. It is the reverence of holy worshippers.
Thoughtfulness, verse 16. The phrase, “His Name,” refers to God’s character and is therefore precious and a thing worth discussing and preserving. Jesus taught that were there are just two people assembled in “His Name,” then He would be in their midst. Those who think on His Name will be found speaking lovingly of Him, Luke 24:15.
Testimony, verse 16. Those who love the Lord invariably love each other and feel their special relationship as brothers and sisters in the Lord’s great family.
2. Three things about the Lord. His:
Concern, verse 16b. He that formed the ear, can He not hear? He “listens,” as if bending low to catch every word and phrase whispered to Him. God is forever interested in His children.
Carefulness, verse 16c. The names of all God’s laborers are found in the Book of Life. Every word is recorded because by our words we will be justified or condemned, Matthew 12:36, 37. Let the word of Christ be found in you in abundance, then you will speak and sing with grace in your hearts to the Lord, Colossians 3:16.
Faithfulness, verse 17. John 6:39 indicated that the riches of God are ours though Christ Jesus. That assurance was once again given in His great prayer in John 17. The Lord knows those who belong to Him.
