WHAT IS THE “PROMISE OF THE FATHER?”

[W]ait for the promise of the Father.

Jesus Christ is the gift of God to the world; the Holy Ghost is the gift of the Father and of the Son to the Church. Both gifts should be accepted with great thanks and should be equally enjoyed by all believers.

1. What the Promise is. It is the promise—

Of an Indweller, John 14:16

Of a Comforter ,John 16:7

Of a Witness, John 15:16

2. The conditions for receiving the Promise. This promise was not made to the world but only to those who had obeyed Him, and were desirous of following Him. They were—

Believing

Waiting, Luke 24:49

Thirsting, Isaiah 44:3

3. The results which follow receiving this Promise—

The undeniable ability to know the mind of God, Philippians 2:13

The unstoppable power to walk according to God’s way, Ezekiel 36:27

The uncanny wisdom to witness according to God’s Word, Acts 1:8; 8:33
