Our week away is winding down, but we did manage to sneak in a trip to Timberline Lodge. This is one amazing lodge! It was a make-work project back in FDR’s day and employed many craftsmen and artisans. Many of the huge beams were hand-hewed and there are carvings of animals and artifacts all over the place. Today it is a world-class lodge and a historical sight, and a recent recipient of stimulus funds. I guess all the snowboarders from California aren’t stimulating enough. The day we were there, Timberline was packed.
You may recognize the exterior of Timberline; it was where Jack Nicholson and Shelly Duvall took the family for the winter in Stephen King’s The Shining (1980).

Envious Mike, very envious. I’d trade my yearly Los Angeles trip for your trip in a heartbeat!
