I don’t know if they play this movie at Christmastime these days, but when I was growing up, Bill Kennedy used to play it several times during the holiday season. It’s A Wonderful life is probably a movie they couldn’t remake today, and yet with its emphasis on high moral values, spirituality, family, and our responsibility to our fellow man, they should.
My guess is everybody over 30 knows the story of George Bailey, a man so depressed with his life that he wished he were dead. He was granted his wish and for a few nightmarish hours, he was given a glimpse of what the world would be like if he had never been born. Life lessons abound in this film, which curiously enough, was a flop when it was first released in 1946. It’s well worth a look; it’s one of those very rare films whose message, if you get it, will definitely make you a better person.
For those of you who remember him, here is a picture of legendary character actor and movie host (WKBD TV50 Detroit) Bill Kennedy. Those of us growing up in”the Sault” in the 1970’s remember him and TV50 well!
